Youth Mission Trip (Beattyville/Nada, KY)--Day 1

This next set of blogs is from our most recent trip to Kentucky with the High School and Middle School students at FBC Augusta.  It was a pleasure for me to be able to join them on the journey.  Thanks to Kyle, Brian, and Ellen for planning a great trip.  Thank you Beth and Kaitlyn Frits, Stuart Evans, and Allen Hardin for going as chaperones.  Unfortunately, there was not a reliable source of wifi so I was unable to blog while on the trip.  I hope these post trip pictures and stories will bring you as much joy to read them as it was to be a part of them!

Sunday
I got to church about 8:45 to finalize packing the mission trailer.  Kyle and Owen were there to load up the luggage trailer.  We got both trailers loaded with supplies and luggage as the students arrived.  Then, we hooked up the luggage trailer to the van I was going to be driving.  The trailer lights were working with the headlights but not with the brake lights and turn signals.  After David Dekle, Barry Brooks, and I  assessed the situation it was determined that a fuse had blown. (I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere...Did you hear the one about the lawyer, the lawn man, and the minister...)  David went to the nearest automotive store and bought a replacement fuse for the van.  After the installation it worked like a charm.  Thanks, David for getting us off on the right foot.  We loaded the kiddos after church and began our epic journey.  What was supposed to be an 8.5 hour drive ended up taking us 12 hours!  We arrived tired after the last two hours took us over back-country, curvy, mountain roads.  I was contemplating a different way home!
